DIRECTORS


Martha Dilworth McMurry, CPA, graduated magna cum laude from Duke University with degrees in Public Policy and Management Science. After five tax seasons with Ernst & Young and a short partnership with a local CPA firm, she founded McMurry & Company, PC in 1983. Martha’s areas of interest include structuring business entities and transactions, business tax planning and preparation, and complex financial reporting issues. Footnotes and financial statements that she has drafted for clients have been selected for inclusion in PPC’s Guide to Preparing Financial Statements Trends volume on eight occasions. She is a member of the AICPA and the TSCPA.

Ben F. McMurry IV, CPA, President, graduated from Emory University, where he was an Emory Scholar, with a double major in Music and Accounting. He joined the firm in January 2002 after working several summers as an intern. Ben excels in highly complex spreadsheet design and QuickBooks ledger setup and analysis. He also has significant experience with the compilation and review of financial statements and business tax preparation. Ben focuses on the construction & real estate and restaurant & amusement industries. He also provides IRS and TDR audit examination support. Ben is a Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor® and is a member of the AICPA and the TSCPA.

Teresa J. “TJ” Newby, CPA, holds a BS degree in Business Administration from Tennessee Technological University. After working for ten years with a prominent regional firm, she founded Newby, Nunley & Hubbs, CPA’s, PC in 1988. She joined McMurry & Company in 1998. TJ has significant experience in construction, real estate, and professional service companies. Her current area of emphasis is in tax planning and compliance, particularly in the areas of trusts and estates. She is a member of the AICPA and the TSCPA.

Beth B. Witt, EA joined McMurry & Company in 1991 after working as an accountant in private industry for 10 years. She is the manager of accounting and tax services to small businesses, specializing in partnership and corporate taxation. She is our resident expert on payroll tax, property tax, and local business tax related issues. She also prepares complex individual tax returns as well as QuickBooks ledger setup and analysis. Beth is qualified to represent clients before the Internal Revenue Service as an Enrolled Agent.


STAFF


Crissy Alley, CPA, graduated magna cum laude from the University of Tennessee in 2013 with a BS in Accounting. Crissy completed the Master of Accountancy program at the University of Tennessee the following year with a concentration in Tax. Crissy began her career at McMurry & Company in July 2014.

Rita L. Blair was the voice of McMurry & Company from 2002 until her retirement in 2016. In 2017, she came back to work with us part-time handling various administrative duties.

Kathy S. Craft has been McMurry & Company’s office manager since joining the firm in 1999. In addition to maintaining the firm’s internal accounting and billing systems, Kathy supervises cash management services for clients and prepares various business tax returns.

Anne L. Emery, CPA, graduated from the University of Tennessee in 2003 with a BS in Communications. Anne has experience working with non-profit organizations and spent several years as an office manager and bookkeeper in the real estate and restaurant industries before joining the firm in June 2010. Anne’s responsibilities include individual tax return preparation, business tax return preparation, payroll and sales tax preparation, and bookkeeping services.  Anne is a member of the AICPA and the TSCPA.

S. Elizabeth Gerkin, CPA graduated cum laude from the University of Tennessee with a BS in Business Administration. She joined McMurry & Company in 1985 while still in college. Elizabeth worked on audits, reviews and compilations before becoming a senior staff accountant. She returned to McMurry & Company in January 2010 after spending 2 years as controller for a local non-profit college. Elizabeth is a member of the AICPA and the TSCPA.

Page Maples joined the firm in March 2018 as receptionist. She moved with her family from the Kingsport area where she had several years of experience working in a CPA firm. In addition to being the welcoming voice and face of McMurry and Company, Page handles various administrative duties.

Karly Wilkinson McMurry, joined the firm in July 2011, and works primarily in the areas of cash management, bookkeeping, payroll and sales tax return preparation. She graduated cum laude with a degree in psychology from Maryville College, where she was a Bonner Scholar. Karly spent a year working with AmeriCorps doing disaster relief and community development activities, then returned to Knoxville where she obtained a Masters of Social Work from the University of Tennessee. After working with a local nonprofit in a program management position for several years, Karly joined the family accounting business, where her background in organizing and managing public services has been valuable to her clients and coworkers.

Robert R. McMurry graduated from Carson Newman College in December of 2004 with a B.S. in computer information systems. Immediately after graduation, he joined the firm as a staff accountant. Robert excels in QuickBooks ledger setup and analysis, individual tax preparation, and computer systems support. His focus is on QuickBooks consulting and computer systems support, including the design and implementation of this website. Robert is a Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor.

Diana K. Tonn, CPA, holds a BA in Economics from Stanford University and a Masters of Science in Accounting from Northeastern University. After three years as a staff accountant in the audit and tax departments with Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co. in Chicago, she joined McMurry & Company in 1983. Diana serves as individual tax manager for the Company, specializing in tax return preparation and tax planning for individuals, estates, and trusts. Diana is a member of the AICPA, the TSCPA, and the Illinois CPA Society.

Beth “Lizzie” Tran, CPA, graduated summa cum laude from the University of Tennessee with a BS in Business Administration. After five years in public accounting, with a focus on audits of nonprofit and governmental entities, she held financial positions in Knoxville/Knox County government and in the publishing industry. Lizzie joined McMurry & Company in October 2007 as a senior staff accountant and specializes in review and compilation of financial statements as well as business and individual tax preparation. Lizzie is a member of the AICPA and the TSCPA.

Kelly D. Wells, graduated from the University of Tennessee in 2001 with a BS in Retail and Consumer Science and a minor in Business Administration. She has experience in medical billing and worked in banking for 10 years, most recently as a branch manager for a local bank. Kelly joined our firm in March of 2015.
